Dendrobium Yellow Chinsai ‘Magical Color’, close-up view

This month Ron McHatton joins us via Zoom to explain Why Won’t it Bloom?

When: Sunday May 25, 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm

Where: Nepean Sportsplex, 1701 Woodroffe Ave. in Hall F (Enter through door 2 from the rear parking lot)

Join us as we meet again with one of our favourite experts, Ron McHatton. Last time he joined us in person and had us on the edge of our seats answering many, many questions on culture about any and all orchids. He is both entertaining and extremely knowledgeable. Ron is the Chief Education and Science Officer for the American Orchid Society.  He gives regular “Greenhouse Chats” on the AOS webinar series as well as being the Editor of the Orchids magazine, the monthly magazine of the AOS. This month, he will be doing a presentation via Zoom called Why Won’t It Bloom?  He will speak about the specific conditions required by the main groups of orchids to promote blooming, and he says that blooming is not due to fertilizer! Many of us can get our phals to bloom, but other orchids can be trickier.  At our May meeting we will learn their secrets.

The meeting will be a hybrid meeting. Our in-person meeting is in Hall F at Nepean Sportsplex. This month we have the biennial elections and we will celebrate our members’ and volunteers' accomplishments at Orchidophilia 2025.  We will have the usual Show Table, raffle and refreshments with a break to chat with your Growing Together” leaders and visit our "Ask Me Anything" experts.  Members, please bring your plants to the show table by 1:40 pm to allow time for judging. If you are feeling unwell, please join us via Zoom.
