MEETINGS

We normally hold meetings on the third Sunday of every month (except April, June, July and August) from 1:30 p.m. to about 4:00 p.m., at the Tom Brown Arena, 141 Bayview Road, Ottawa. Click here for directions and map. During the COVID-19 pandemic we are no longer able to have in-person meetings so instead we are holding “virtual meetings” via the Internet. These meetings are open to all Society members, and our membership rates are still only $25 per year.

Virtual meetings will feature either a speaker presentation or a short on-line demonstration, using sharing software (Zoom or similar) to allow members to participate. The speaker presentations will be given by local and international orchid experts, and the demonstrations will be given by Society members who are eager to share their expertise. Please click here for more information.

A highlight of our normal meetings is the Show Table where members bring in their plants for display and judging. During the pandemic we will instead have a virtual Show Table where we invite members to send in photos of their flowering plants. Based on the photos received, the plants are judged in each orchid alliance and ribbons are awarded as well as a “Best of Show Table” rosette.

The virtual Show Table will be held two weeks before each Sunday meeting to allow time for organizing and judging the entries, and will be restricted to members only. Details are provided in Spike.

From time to time we will organize group orders of plants and/or orchid growing supplies to give members an opportunity to purchase whatever they are looking for.
